EVERYTHING IN ITS ORDER
When God made all of creation, He “spoke” it all into existence, out of nothing. And we see this remarkable ability of our omnipotent God confirmed in Romans 4:17, where it says, “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did”. For in John 6:63, Jesus likewise says that “the words that I speak are spirit and life.” As spirit, the words Jesus speaks are a seed that produces fruit after its own kind, which is life. Which, by just speaking, is to declare the end from the beginning.
But when it came to man, man represents a deliberate and purposeful departure from this design blueprint of calling those things out of nothing into existence. Instead of out of nothing, Adam was made out of a combination of two things: both dust and the breath of God. Which is a combination of both the natural and the spiritual. With the object lesson for man being two things. Firstly, the object lesson that it’s the spirit that gives life. Without the breath of God or spirit, man would remain simply dust. Which is confirmed in John 6:63, where Jesus says, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.” And secondly, that in the creation of man, that by design, God created man to represent a pattern and type of divine order. Being the divine order of sovereignty that God’s plan for man is, and always has been, that “the spirit” reign over the dust of “the flesh”.
We see the requirement for this divine order play out in the garden of Eden. Regarding the instructions God gave Adam around the two trees, Eve had not heard God’s words. Adam had. Genesis 2:16, 17 tells us that God commanded “the man” about the two trees. Which, also, was before He made Eve, which came later in Genesis 2:22. Which may explain why Satan targeted Eve, being out of her ignorance of God’s command. But it was for an entirely different reason, dealing with the treason of shaking God’s divine order for His house. Which we already saw in Lucifer once before in attempting to overthrow God’s divine order in heaven.
Compared to Adam, Eve was made from Adam, not separately out of her own dust. So intrinsically, Eve represents “a living part” of Adam. And whilst we may see them as separate, according to the word of God, a man and wife become “one flesh”. So even though Eve represents a separate part of Adam, in God’s eyes, they are “one”. But also, according to God’s word, man is a three part being, just like God is a tripartite God. Being the three part being of spirit, soul and body. However, God is Spirit. And so, as Spirit, God speaks to spirit. God spoke to Adam. So Adam represents the spirit element of man. Eve, on the other hand, represents the soul realm of man (separately identifiable, but still part of the same man). Which explains why God didn’t make Adam and Eve at the same time, because by leading with first Adam and then Eve, God was showing us His divine order. In God’s divine order for man, first is the spirit, and then the soul. Which also explains why Eve hadn’t heard God’s words, because as Spirit, God speaks to spirit, being the Adam part of man. And we know this to be true, for just like Eve led Adam astray, in all sin, it is the soul that leads the man astray. “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed” (James 1:14). The key words being “his own”. By a part of him.
So Eve represents the soul layer that the devil tempts in all men. Being the three things by which all men are tempted in 1 John 2:16. And given that it is to the spirit man that God speaks, by Adam not yet speaking of what God had told Adam before Eve was created, it shows that Adam had not yet submitted his soul unto his spirit. God speaks of everything being in its order in many scriptures. It is not the order of God that the natural (being the soul) should rule the supernatural (being the spirit). The spirit is called to rule the natural. The spirit must rule and conquer and overcome the soul. He who overcomes shall inherit all things. We are to overcome, and not be overcome.
The soul seeks to overcome the spirit. And it does so in rebellion against God’s order of things. If you look at any rebellion, it’s about usurping who is head. Sin is rebellion against the headship and order of things. Eve represents the soul realm of man vying for headship and leading the spirit into sin. Where do we see this example at its worst? With Jezebel. Which is why God says all rebellion is unto witchcraft. And because the spirit man of Adam allowed this, that spirit was cut off from communion and fellowship with God. The spirit (representing Adam) did not take authority over the soul (representing Eve). And in all cases, as for Adam, when the soul overcomes the spirit, the man falls.
Which is what Adam did. He fell. Because Eve, as man’s soul, overcame Adam as the spirit of man. And so man fell. And so we all fall when we do not take authority over our soul or our flesh. The great Goliath we all need to sever the head off of is the giant of our soul or flesh rising up in rebellion against that which produces life and sustains life - the spirit. The divine order of things is spirit, soul, and body. Which you can see in 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Everything in its order, the word of God says. God spoke to Adam, as spirit, and commanded him to take authority over all things natural. The soul is part of the flesh or the natural. There is a requirement for each of us to restore the divine order of things. Which is spirit over soul over body.
When Jesus speaks of man being the head of the home, the home He is speaking of is the temple of man. The man, being the spirit man or Adam in both male and female, is to take authority in the home of the temple of God, and subdue the soul or the flesh represented by Eve. We also know that Eve represents the flesh or soul because the punishment for Eve is that women feel the pain in the flesh of childbirth, but Adam, as spirit, suffers the punishment of having to toil. Which is the toil of the spirit part of the house wrestling to taking authority over the soul part of the house. So that the house may dwell and live in order. And this is the toil that became the inheritance of the fall that the soul or flesh is at constant enmity with the spirit. “And I will put enmity between you and the woman” (Genesis 3:15). “The flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh” (Galatians 5:17).
The word of God continues to say woman submit unto your husbands as he submits unto the Lord. Which is God saying the soul needs to submit to the spirit. And the spirit to God. For both male and female, in as much as the Adam or “the spirit man” in both males and females, submits to God as head, and both men and woman let their own Adam or spirit take authority over their soul or Eve, the house shall be in order or in peace. As long as the Adam in both men and women don’t submit to God, where submitting to God is to allow the spirit in men and women to take authority back, and restore God’s sense of divine order, there will always be toil and enmity in the land of the temple of God.
Which is the essence of the call to die to self. Being the call to die to the soul life so that the spirit life may rule and reign through the Headship of the Spirit of God on the throne of our hearts. As long as the soul has life, like Pharaoh, even after ten plagues, it will still raise its head again and again in defiance. It will never cease. And unless, like with the Red Sea and with David, we cut the head of the giant of our flesh off, and truly die to self, so that there may be only One head, there will be strife and contention and enmity in the house of God that is man. For the Lord says, “foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head” (Matthew 8:20).
