THAT THE SUN MAY STAND STILL
Is it not written that the fallen one, the great Lucifer, who fell from grace, like a bright star vanishing from its high throne in the sky, that he is the prince of darkness? [Ephesians 6:12]. And is his kingdom not the kingdom of darkness? And we know that he has a kingdom because the living Word confirms this. For these words proceeded from the mouth of Jesus Himself, "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?“ [Matthew 12:26]. And if Jesus says it so, who are we to question His veracity? Does this not confirm, without fail, that Satan indeed has a kingdom?
And is his kingdom not the world? For is it not written, “We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one”? [1 John 5:19]. Does that not make “the world” the kingdom of darkness? For just like Jesus makes us to lie down in green pastures, does this not make the world the pastures of the evil one? And does he not cause the whole world to lie down in his pastures? And if the world belongs to the kingdom of darkness, why would we want to serve the world? And if we serve the world and it’s ways, who then are we truly serving? Are we then not serving the ruler of the world? Which is the prince of darkness?
And of this world, is it not true that we are born into this world “as citizens” of Lucifer's kingdom of darkness? And do we not remain in his kingdom until we are translated out of that kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of light? [Colossians 1:13]. So does that then not tell us that the Kingdom of light has absolutely nothing at all to do with the world? With either its ways or with its thoughts? For is it not written, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” [1 John 1:5]. And if so, why would we then want to have anything to do with the world? Or its thoughts or its ways?
And if you have a kingdom, is it also not true that you have a throne? For is a kingdom not ruled from a throne? For does it not say in Revelation 2:13 that the devil has a throne, 'I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is”? And of this darkness, what is its prime purpose? Is it not that your eyes may remain closed, that you cannot see further than your own nose? Which is to be as they who are truly blind? For what else is the final consequence of having darkness forever before our eyes? For is it not written, “In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God”? [2 Corinthians 4:4].
As those who, by the grace of God, have been set free from the bonds of darkness, from the lies of the world, and it’s greedy, self-serving ways, of which we are all guilty, are we then not to stand in prayer and intercession for all those who are yet blinded in their minds from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ? For is it not written, “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until the fullness of day.” [Proverbs 4:8]? And what is the fullness of day? Is it not when there is no darkness at all? For what is the power of prayer? Is it not the power to hold the light of the sun in its place? [Joshua 10:13]. Is it not the force of God upon the atmosphere to change the very nature of the atmosphere of darkness? So that the Spirit of God may move upon their dark waters to pierce the veil of darkness and allow in the light? Is it not the call to arms for the bearers of the light to pattern themselves upon the similitude of the Prince of Light who stands at the right hand of God, interceding on our behalf, that just like Him, we should love our neighbours as ourselves, that God may “open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” [Acts 28:16]? Which is a place not in the kingdom of darkness, but a place in the Kingdom of light?
