A COMPANY OF DOVES
“Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God”. (Matthew 5:9). “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God”. (Romans 8:14).
Just like “the heart” is the universal symbol for “LOVE”, is “the dove” not the universal symbol for “PEACE”?
And when it comes to the dove, is the Holy Spirit not likened unto a dove? And if the Holy Spirit is likened unto a dove, does this not suggest that the ultimate fruit of the Holy Spirit is to bring peace? Which is to bring eternal peace between “a world” that is at enmity with God, and “God”? For is it not written: “You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.” (James 4:4).
And as the symbol of peace, did the Holy Spirit not descend upon Jesus “like a dove”? Which was right at the BEGINNING of His ministry on earth? Which is to COME in peace? And when Jesus FINISHED His ministry on earth, didn't He say: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you”? (John 14:27). Which is to LEAVE in peace? And is it not written: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”? And is Jesus not THE Son of God? Then does this not position Jesus as THE peacemaker? Which is why Jesus is called “The Prince of Peace”. (Isaiah 9:6).
And when Jesus came to bring peace, is it not written: “Do not think that I came to bring peace to the earth; I came not to bring peace, but a sword”? (Matthew 10:34). Which would seem contradictory? But there are no contradictions in God. Just like there are no contradictions in His Word. For God IS the Word and the Word IS God. For "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. (John 1:1). For it means to bring a sword to everything and anything that would keep man from being at peace with his Father. Which is to use a sword to “separate man from” or “cut man off” from everything that would stand in the way of peace between man and the Father.
And when it comes to separating man from everything that keeps man at enmity with God, is the Ark of Noah not a type and pattern of such a sword? Did the Ark not cut man off completely from all that was at enmity with God? And just like the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove, did “a dove” likewise not come to rest on the Ark with an olive leaf for “seven days”? Which is a “perfect rest”. Which is a “perfect peace”. Is the Ark then not a type and pattern of the perfect rest and peace of Jesus? For are those who are IN Jesus not completely safe from the Father’s ire, which is to be at perfect peace with the Father, just like when those who were IN the Ark were completely safe when the judgment of the Father came upon all the earth?
And just like at the END of the account of the Ark, that the dove that brought the olive leaf of peace then flew FROM the Ark and returned not to Noah, at the END of Jesus’ earthly ministry, did He not say: “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper WHO WILL BE WITH YOU FOREVER?” Which is the same as Noah sending out the dove that returned not. It remained where it went forever. And did Jesus not say: “That helper is the Spirit of Truth?” Which is the Holy Spirit. And did He then not also say: “You know him, because he lives WITH you and will be IN you?” Which is exactly the same as when Jesus said: “My peace I leave WITH you, My peace I give TO you.”
As the dove is the universal symbol of peace, the Holy Spirit represented as a dove makes perfect sense. And as the peacemakers, the sons of God will be “a company of doves” that come in the eternal power and the divine nature of the dove of the Holy Spirit. For a peacemaker harbours no bitterness. And a dove has no gall bladder. It knows no bitterness. For if there was any inkling of bitterness in them at all, they would not be able to genuinely make real peace. And just like a dove has nine wing feathers, the Holy Spirit has nine fruits and nine gifts. And of the fruits of the Spirit, what produces peace? Does love not produce peace? And what about joy? And kindness and goodness and gentleness? And faithfulness and patience and self-control? All the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Do they not ALL produce peace? ALL the other fruits of the Holy Spirit produce peace. Just like a love that is pure, in turn, produces all the other fruits, beginning with peace. “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is FIRST of all PURE; THEN PEACE-LOVING, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17).
May we all be as sons of God, being those who are the peacemakers, being all those who are led by the dove of the Spirit of God. Pour Your Spirit out in all the earth, and in all the atmosphere. That the wings of heaven may be heard in every heart and every nation. For how beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7).
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace”. (Numbers 6:24-26).
