THE STARS OF GOD

It would be difficult to find anyone who, at some moment, has never looked up at the wonder of the night sky, and simply marvelled at the utter beauty of the stars in breathtaking wonder. Have you ever wondered why we are ALL drawn so universally to the night skies and to their awesome beauty? The canvas of the glory of the heavens at night is representative of the captivating nimbus of light the world is to see resting upon the church of God and within His children. For the Word declares that we, ourselves, are all called to be the stars of God. And like the stars above, it is a beautiful spectacle.

The children of God are called to be a light to the world on a high hill. For what else are stars but a light in the darkness upon the hills of heaven. We are that beauty for the world. The world is to stop and stare in wonder and amazement at the marvel of the beauty of the light in the darkness. We are to punctuate the night sky with the glory of God. And we are in the skies because we are to turn the gaze of man forever heavenward. So that all may marvel at the wonder and glory of our Creator who abides in heaven. Everything we see before us as the spectacle of creation is deliberate by intention and design for understanding all that which is unseen.

Jesus is referred to as the 'morning star' in 2 Peter 1:19 and in Revelation 2:28. For the morning star is the brightest of all. And we are not only called to imitate Christ, but we are made in the image and likeness of our LORD. Is it any wonder, then, that we are referred to as stars? In Isaiah 14:13, it says: "For you [Satan] have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north." He refers to man as the "stars of God". Satan is saying to God that by exalting himself ABOVE the stars of God, that he will exalt himself in the hearts of man, and get all of man to worship him.

In Romans 1:20, it says: "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse." In other words, just as all of man already stares in wonder at creation, God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, are to be clearly seen in His church. There is nothing higher in our physical universe than stars. As members of the body of Christ, God looks upon us symbolically, as stars, bright stars assigned to deliver the light of truth about the gospel and the love of the Father to a hungry world. And if we don’t do that, we have truly fallen, in God's eyes, from a great height indeed.

This symbolism of God's people, as stars falling, is repeated throughout the messaging of Revelation. This falling is typecast by: "If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place." Now knowing that the lampstands represent the Holy Spirit, having it removed leaves us as prodigal sons seperated, by our own actions, from the family of God. The admonition of the possible loss of the Holy Spirit shows how important this lack of love being displayed through loving our neighbour as ourselves is taken by God. Of this, David says: "remove not Your Holy Spirit from me or Your presence". Let us not be like those falling stars in heaven that drop out of the sky only to never be seen again.

As His children, being all those who are led by the Spirit, we need to prove His love in us. "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." ROMANS 12:2. It is a GOOD thing to love. It is our ACCEPTABLE service. And it is a PERFECT work. "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give." MATTHEW 10:8.

"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen." 1 TIMOTHY 1:17
