THE NINE FRUITS OF THE SONS OF DARKNESS

Right from the very beginning, the human condition and the history of mankind has been patterned according to polar opposites. In everything, we see a pattern of direct contrasts. Light and darkness. Good and evil. Truth and lies. Love and hate. “I set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20).

All that is life is patterned after a model of “binary opposites” or “mirroring contrasts”. For is it not written that if you are not with Me, you are against Me? Does the Word not teach that he who does not gather with Me scatters? And in the manifestation of these polar opposites, is it not written that it is by their fruit that all men shall be known? (Matthew 7:16). “By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.” (1 John 3:10). Which is to be distinguished by their fruit. And the evidence of the fruit of these opposing dualities is borne out by which spirit has come upon and entered each man. The Spirit of God? Or the spirit of the prince of the air? For are you not born into this world as citizens of Lucifer's kingdom of darkness, and do you not remain in his kingdom until you are translated out of that kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of light? (Colossians 1:13).

For when God moves, does He not move by His Spirit? When He does a new thing, is it not by His Spirit that He does a new thing? For when His Spirit comes upon us, are we not called a new creation? And as a new creation, shall we not bear new fruit? For those who are a new creation, is our nature now then not a new nature? For is not all fruit borne out of nature? Either the fallen nature or the divine nature? Which is to produce fruit after its own kind. And unless we are born of the divine nature, shall we not all produce fruit out of the fallen nature? Which is the nature of the “fallen one” Lucifer who entered into Adam when God set before him two trees so as to set before him “life and death”, “blessings and cursing”. And instead of choosing life and blessings, Adam chose death and cursing?

And since it has already been established that in all things there is a binary opposite, a counterfeit of the way, and the truth, and the life, in the same way that there are nine fruits of the Spirit, there are likewise nine spirits of the fallen nature that are the very antithesis of the nine fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23. For unless we move by His Spirit, how can the Lord impart “love, joy and peace” when many saints are operating out of the fruit of the spirit of bitterness of “jealousy, criticism and resentment”? Which according to Hebrews is a spirit that when it takes root, it contaminates many. It is likewise impossible for saints to express genuine “longsuffering, gentleness and goodness” toward others if there are “proud, religious, and deceiving” spirits at work in their lives. There can be very little real “fidelity, meekness and self-control” evidenced in those who have likewise succumbed to “covetous, lust and lying” spirits. And to know by which spirit we move, all we need to do is look at our fruit.

With this in mind, is it not written that I have begun a work in you, and that I will perfect it, even for that day of My appearing when all who are ready shall be received of Me into My glory?(Philippians 1:6). For think not that My work in you, in providing for your redemption and salvation from sin, is all that is required. I say, this is only the beginning. After this has been received, there is much work that I must do within you to make you a fit vessel to receive all that which I have prepared for you. Which is that in My Spirit, you live and move and have your being. (Acts 17:28). So that by your fruit, you may be known. And that by that fruit, you will be known to be a child of God and a son of righteousness, as distinguished from a child of the devil and a son of darkness. So that in this life and the life to come, you may produce fruit after the right kind, which is fruit after the divine nature. Which is to do all the good works which God has planned for you even before the foundations of time. “For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10). So that, ultimately, you may not only SEE the kingdom of God, but also ENTER it.
