BEHOLD, THESE ARE THE UNGODLY
Behold, these are the ungodly,
Who are always at ease.
They increase in riches.
They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression.
Their eyes bulge with abundance.
They have more than heart could wish.
They set their mouth against the heavens.
And their tongue walks through the earth.
Therefore pride serves as their necklace.
Violence covers them like a garment.
But is it not written: “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall”? Proverbs 16:18.
YOU SET THEM IN SLIPPERY PLACES
Until I went into the sanctuary of God, then I understood their end.
Surely You set them in slippery places.
You cast them down to destruction.
Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors.
Shall God not set His tongue against their scoffing? Shall God not likewise scoff at their terror? For is it not written: “Therefore, I indeed will deal in wrath. My eye will have no pity nor will I spare; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, yet I will not listen to them." Ezekiel 8:18. And is not also said: “Then they will cry out to the LORD, but he will not answer them. At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done”? Micah 3:4.
“Therefore pride serves as their necklace; Violence covers them like a garment. Their eyes bulge with abundance; They have more than heart could wish. They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression; They speak loftily. They set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue walks through the earth.” Psalm 73:6-9.
