THE NATURE AND THE POWER

I was praying last night, and the gracious Spirit of God showed me such a truly astonishing revelation. And for every one of these precious moments of His revelation, it is just as it is written. Which is that when the light shines in the darkness, darkness can not overcome it (John 1:5). For revelation is like waking unto a new dawn from the dark of deep sleep. For is it not written that: “The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day”? (Proverbs 4:18).

Which is why God patterned that we sleep at night, and wake at the day. God has purposely made everything in the natural pattern some revelation about the spiritual. Revelation is akin to the “new day sunrise” of being awakened from the deep sleep of darkness so that our eyes may suddenly open to the “new dawning of light”. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14).

In my prayer, I was asking the LORD to make a way for His nature and His power — being the invisible attributes of God described in Romans 1:20 — to please be displayed in me. So that I can walk away from sin, and honour Him as a son. For in order to honour my Father in heaven, I have come to truly understand that I need to have His nature. And in order to overcome sin, I also desperately need His power. For just like sin is “a nature” (being the fallen nature), so too is righteousness “a nature”. And I can only be genuinely free from sin when the fallen nature is replaced with the power of a new nature. Being righteousness. And I can only honour my Father when I am just like Him. Which is when I live and move and have my being in HIS nature. For besides, fruit is also a function of nature. And it will be by “our fruit” that we shall all one day be known and counted.

And it was at that precise moment of me earnestly praying for His nature and power, that He then suddenly showed me that when it comes to His nature, it is “the Word” that is His NATURE. Which is a beautiful nature — a nature contrary to the fallen nature of all men — one that has been fully revealed to all of creation by “the Word being made flesh” in His Son. For if you have seen the Son, you have seen the Father (John 14:9). And when it comes to the power, the Holy Spirit is the POWER. The power to make that divine nature alive and real. Not just in spirit, but also in truth (John 4:24). Which is why both Jesus and the Helper were sent by the Father to dwell amongst men. So that we can not only LIVE in the divine nature (in the spirit), but also WALK in the power of that nature (Galatians 5:25) (in the flesh). So that just like with His firstborn, we may all be those in whom the Word has been made flesh (John 1:14).

So we need to have BOTH.

Both the Word, or the nature, and the Holy Spirit, the power, for us to walk in victory as a truly transformed new creation in Christ. The seed of “the Word” needs to be sowed into the soil of our hearts through the eating of the Word (consuming it, meditating on it night and day). For do we not eat at morning, midday and night? “Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me.“ (John 6:57). And the Holy Spirit needs to move upon that seed by watering that seed (just as in nature) “till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).

To God alone be all the glory and praise and honour.

In all things.
