HOW THE HUMAN BODY PROVES THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD
Whilst the wars and wages of time show a mankind at relentless odds with each other over who and what their god is, and which of their gods is “the god of all gods”, one thing that is common to all sides of the human debate is the phenomenon of mankind itself. While there may be no common god for all of mankind, a common man is the universal ingredient for all the gods. The same manner of man that on one day declares "Zeus to be god", is the very same man that on yet another day acknowledges "a tree as god". And while human conjecture abounds and human argument prevails as to who God really is, and IF He really even exists, there is one thing that is not open for debate. And that is that ALL men are made the same. The same manner of man who "worships the moon" is identical in kind to the man who "deifies a mountain". For ALL men, regardless of their god, have two arms, two legs, a torso and a head. Whether Roman or Viking, Hindi or Hispanic, Jew or Greek, we are all made of the very same fabric of "skin and sinew", and "bone and tissue". ALL parts of the human anatomy, those both seen and unseen, have the identical form and function for all of mankind. The body of one man operates in precisely the same manner as the next. And for a mankind of billions, this phenomenon of a "singular design" for the body of all men points strongly to a “single origin” for every man. For in the same way that men wage wars over who is sovereign, what are the chances of all the gods of those men somehow agreeing on a singular blueprint for the body of all mankind?
Going hand in hand with this universal blueprint of "a common body", regardless of who we are, whether as the yet unborn miracle in a budding womb, or the spectacle of God’s greatest masterpiece in the prime of life, for each and every man, be that the man of "a hundred gods or one", there are THREE primary things that we ALL, both individually and universally, depend upon as mankind in order to live from one day to the next. And to not only live, but to also thrive. And the THREE essential ingredients common to all men for life are “oxygen, water and food”. If any man has no oxygen, what happens? He dies. And very rapidly. If we don’t have water, what happens? We also die. A little less quickly. And if we don’t have food, what happens then to man too? We die once more. Even less quickly. For all THREE accounts, the end result is the same. On this universal truth, no man in all of mankind, regardless of who or what there god is, can argue. It is as much a forgone conclusion as is the sun rising in the East every morning.
So whilst men debate and war over who their gods are, the single creator of all mankind is teaching us all, as one mankind, that not only is there only one God, (since it is improbable that in the scramble for ascendancy, that all gods would come to an agreement on the design blueprint of "their" chosen creation), but that not only do we ALL need exactly the same THREE things in order to physically live, with the emphasis being on THREE, but that in order to live, we need to have ALL of them, not just part thereof. Having either two or even one of the THREE is just not enough. It has to be all three, or nothing. Which, whether you believe in a god or not, demonstrates a critical physical dependency as a human on "THREE" for life. We see the exact same evidence of this physical dependency whether we are speaking of the yet-to-be-born wonderful infant in a swollen belly, or the senior citizen approaching the far side of an enormously fulfilling life. And in perfect parallel, in precise mirror formation of the body’s dependency on oxygen, water and food, when it comes to the one God who not only describes Himself as THREE, but who also specifically refers to Himself as “the BREATH of life”, and “the WATER of life”, and “the BREAD of life”, who is that one and only God?
In being precisely the very same THREE things that sustain the life of all mankind, when it comes to this God, who is the God of THREE yet one, what is “the Father” referred to as? The “breath” of life (oxygen). Who breathed “the breath of life” into the dust that God stood up as all men? At the same time, what is “the Son” referred to as? The “bread” of life (food). Who said “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world”? What is “the Holy Spirit” referred to as? The “water” of life (water). Which God said “deep calls unto deep”? And that “"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink”? Is it merely coincidental that the body of every single human for all of mankind tells each of us, one and all, regardless of who we believe our god to be or not to be, that we all need THREE things in order to live? And that those THREE things "just happen to be" exactly the same three things that the only living God calls Himself by? Just as we cannot get by with only food and water, but no oxygen, we cannot get by with just "the bread of life" and "the breath of life" without also "the water of life". We need all THREE. A critical dependence on THREE is reinforced and mirrored in perfect parallel in the God of THREE. And when it comes to THREE, who also says these THREE things? “I am the way, and the truth, and the life"? It’s the same God who says: “I alone am God! There are no other gods; no one is like me” [THREE]. (Isaiah 46:9). “But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king” [THREE] (Jeremiah 10:10). Which proves that we need to seek life from a God who is “a living trinity” in order to sustain life. And there is only one God who qualifies.
But the human body doesn’t simply stop there. Is it any wonder that the God of all creation refers to man as His masterpiece? There is yet further evidence of the human body telling us who the only God is. Another feature common to the blueprint design of man’s body is that regardless of whether we are in the womb or not, there is a single agent or mechanism through which all THREE critical needs for all of mankind are successfully met. Whether as a fledgling fetus or a bustling adult, regardless of where each man persists on the spectrum of human life, both appropriate the essential oxygen, water, and nutrients needed in order to blossom and bloom from day to day, day after day, through the vehicle of “the blood”. As a growing speck in a mother’s belly, it is “the blood” of the mother through the umbilical of life that provides all three primary life-sustaining ingredients for what grows in her womb. As a fully grown adult, man assimilates all three mandatory requirements for life, each and every day, without interruption or exception, through “the blood”. And for all, it is consistently, and ONLY through the blood. It is the blood alone that carries the requisite oxygen, and water and food to all extremities of the human body in order that the human body should live from one day to the next, from one year to the next. How, too, does this same God who is THREE yet one, who is also “the breath, the bread, and the water” of life, then tell us, one and all, what is the ONLY WAY that man has access to the heavenly THREE? And once again, consistent with what the human body also tells us, this very same God says that the only way for man to access the bread, and breath, and water of life is through “the Blood”. Again, just another coincidence in the design blueprint of the body of all mankind?
There is even more. In the blood itself, we once again see the human body’s critical dependency on THREE. For the blood is also crucially made up of THREE kinds of cells – platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells. Without all three, or without any one of the three blood cells, man cannot survive. The platelets HEAL; the white cells DEFEND; and the red cells NOURISH. With any one of these three types missing, man simply cannot live. Again a critical dependence on THREE is blueprinted for all men, regardless of creed, colour, culture or class. Should any type be missing, we will not survive for very long. Which is precisely the same eventuality for man who doesn’t turn to the Blood “to heal” (from the brokenness of sin), “to defend” (from judgment and enemy attack) and “to nourish” (back into eternal life from the effects of the Fall). That man will not live long. He, too, will live this short life, but not beyond. In exactly the same way the human body is blueprinted to HEAL through the platelets, to DEFEND through the white cells, and to NOURISH through the red cells (with water, oxygen and nutrients), the one and only living God HEALS, DEFENDS, and PROVIDES, and we have access to all three ONLY through the Blood. Is this also a mere coincidence?
At the same time, with any one of the three blood cell types missing, we are therefore, thus also incomplete (or not whole). In other words, not only is our dependence on all of the iterations of THREES above necessary to physically live, but as “we live”, a dependence on THREE is also necessary for mankind in order “to be complete”. And in the very same way, our soul’s dependence is upon EACH of “the three Persons” EQUALLY for both life and completion (or wholeness). We are completely dependent on God as one, AND God as THREE, because it is God as THREE all working together as ONE who thoroughly complete us – "body, soul and spirit", being again a function of THREE. “And in Him you have been made complete” (Colossians 2:10). But our access to the THREE is singularly and exclusively only through the Blood, just like it is for the physical body. Of all mankind’s numerous gods, what other god is so intimately and directly aligned, in both form and function, to the intricate dependencies and plurality of needs of all mankind? Coincidence?
In the same way, the Blood does THREE absolutely vital things. Another coincidence? It completely and entirely covers all sins - PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE – THREE tenses. And in doing so, it covers the THREE effects of sin also. The Blood covers the PENALTY of sin (past tense). The blood covers the POWER of sin (present tense). And the blood covers the PRESENCE of sin (future tense). A "complete work" by a "complete blood" in THREE different ways, and in THREE different dimensions. In other words, a complete covering for ALL of mankind (represented by THREE) is available through the Blood. “For the life of the flesh IS in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it IS the blood THAT maketh an atonement for the soul” (Leviticus 17:11).
There is another illustration of the evidence of the one and only living God who is THREE in the human body. There is a "THREE-stranded" coded cell that behaves like structural scaffolding in almost every tissue of the human anatomy. This structural scaffolding plays an integral role in THREE ways: in influencing "cell differentiation", "cell migration", and "cell adhesion". It is called "Laminin". Laminins are "heterotrimeric proteins" that contain THREE protein chains: an "α-chain, a β-chain, and a γ-chain" (Wikipedia). Not only are the three chains of this "coded cell" shaped like "the Cross", which in itself is especially phenomenal, but Laminin is vital for "the maintenance and survival of tissues". WHO, other than Christ, is absolutely vital for "the maintenance and survival" of man spiritually? WHAT, other than the Cross, "binds" man to His maintenance and survival? These THREE protein chains "bind" tissue and organs together.
Laminins bind human tissue and organs together by forming independent networks. They are associated with "type IV collagen" networks via THREE glycoproteins called "entactin", "fibronectin", and "perlecan" . And in turn, the soft and hard tissues that they bind together also work to further hold the body together. For example, ligaments are another type of connective tissue that attach two bones and consequently hold the joints together. Tendons are similar, but a different type of tissue that attach the muscles to the bones. Underpinning this all is the structural scaffolding of laminin that is shaped in the form of The Cross (see below)."By Him ALL THINGS are held together" (Colossians 1:17). These tissues, the bones, ligaments, tendons and the skeletal muscles themselves, are all made up of proteins. One of the most predominant proteins is called collagen. Collagen is a protein made up of amino-acids, which are in turn built out of THREE things once again: carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. Through their interactions with these type IV collagen networks, laminins critically contribute to these THREE vital bodily functions: (1) cell attachment and differentiation, (2) cell shape and movement, maintenance of tissue phenotype, and (3) promotion of tissue survival. “And in Him you have been made complete” (Colossians 2:10).
Another mapping of the human body to the one and only true God who has purposed every detail of the human body, is the design of the human heart. Through His mind-boggling forethought and purposefulness, God has intentionally designed the working of man’s “physical heart” to be an exact reflection of the expression of the man’s “spiritual heart” (where the heart is the “icon of love”). This same God tells us that the model of true love is found in the two greatest commandments (Matthew 22:37-39). And these two commandments work together like the operation of the human heart. There needs to first be an “inflow” from “communion with God”, and then an “outflow” through "community with man". In that way, the heart, being the symbol of love, clearly demonstrates that the fullness of love is a two-way operation, just like the human heart is a two-way operation upon which all of life also depends. And as an expression of the outflow of "God's heart", for those who are children of God, being those who are led by the Spirit (communion) (Romans 8:14), out of the abundance of the "heart of man", we get to partake in the greatest privilege of all, which is to share the extravagant love of an astonishingly intimate and thoughtful Father with all who are our neighbour (community).
So in that way, in the operation of the fullness of love, man then becomes that side of the pump house of God’s heart that receives the oxygen-rich (or Spirit-filled) blood from “communion with the Father” and then pumps it to “the body” (just like the physical heart does) through “community with man”. Which is also why He created man’s body in the image of one head and one heart (representing the “oneness” of communion) (John 17:21), and with ten fingers and ten toes (representing the “many” of community) (Romans 12:5). In His remarkable way, God has pre-purposed ahead of time, that as His children, we may all be “like Father like son” - being those for whom the apple never falls very far from the Tree of Life. “Under the apple tree I roused you; there your mother conceived you, there she who was in labour gave you birth. Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding to the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.” (Song of Songs 8:5-7).
The God who made man’s body is using the design blueprint of the human body as a teaching to not only show us that our critical dependencies in order to live and be whole “in the natural” works in multiples of THREE, but to also show us that “the law” of the human body’s natural dependency on THREE points to “the life” of our spiritual dependency on THREE, just like “the law” of the Old Testament points to “the life” of the New Testament. The law points to the one true God. Who is ONE, but THREE. Who is living, and not dead. Who came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. So that we may find the truth, and that the truth may set us free. And so it is that when we live in the freedom that is the THREE of “the way, and the truth, and the life”, that we then find the ONENESS that is the wholeness and the fullness of life that is love. And it is the oneness of love that fully completes us. “… and to know the love of Christ, which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up TO ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD.” (Ephesians 3:19).
There is always so much more to God than what initially ever meets the human eye. Behind all that we may first see, there is ALWAYS a precise and deliberate “WHY” to everything that God either does, or designs, or declares. For instance, out of all the possible options available to God, have you ever wondered WHY it was that God specifically chose “a book” to represent all the amazing answers that unlock the deep mysteries and deep meaning of life? And to use “words” as the building blocks of that book to frame the contours of His blueprint for living authentically? "When a man gets to God, it is by the most simple way - words" (Oswald Chambers).
If you take a look at the structure of a book, what is a book made up of? Primarily a collection of pages. But what holds it all together? A spine! What holds man physically together? A spine! What else? The ribs attached to that spine. What do the ribs attached to the spine of man represent? The pages of the Bible attached to the spine of the Book. What allows man to keep "his posture in natural life"? His spine and ribs. What allows man to keep "his posture with God"? The Word. Like the ribs, the words protect, support and allow us to breathe the breath of life. The Word captured in bite size chunks as “the bread of life” upon the pages of a book, the Bible. Which is still the most printed and read books of all time. And just like man’s ribs expand when the lungs fill up with oxygen, the words on the pages of the Bible fill up and come to life when “the breath of life” that is the Holy Spirit brings them all to life. There are also two lungs framed like a book. One for each side of the spine. In the same way, the Ten Commandments are framed like the two pages of a book bound together by a spine. God has deliberately designed the human body to represent and reflect the image and likeness of the living Word.
And that is why God has given the anatomy of man two legs. Because we are to always WALK in that truth. And He has given us two arms, for we are to do ALL THINGS in the truth. “Be not hearers only, but doers” (James 1:22). And He has given us eyes that we may see with the truth. And a mouth that we may speak the truth. And most important, what is behind the rib cage of man? The heart. For we are to do all things “in love”. The motive behind “the way and the truth and the life” is always love, for the culmination of “the way and the truth and the life” is always love. For the greatest of these is love (Matthew 22:37-39), being the spine and the posture of all the scriptures. And just like on the Cross, “on love” hang all the Law and the Prophets. “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments" (Matthew 22:40). And it is when all things culminate in love, that then it is true that there is a way of “declaring the end from the beginning”. And when we start in love with all things, it is true that there is a way of “starting at the finishing line”.
What else does the human body tell us about this one true God? In our process of being “filled up to all the fullness of God”, which is mankind maturing into the fullness of life that this one true God would have us all enjoy as His children, “pregnancy” for mankind is where the fetus is filled up to all its fullness of life through the privilege and position of constant connection to the THREE vital ingredients through the umbilical. And pregnancy is also measured in THREES. It is measured in trimesters. Each trimester is THREE months, and there are THREE trimesters. A trinity of trinities when it comes to all that would complete us in the womb of life. And this is true regardless of what god man believes in or not. But the umbilical represents the connection of relationship. And together, the womb and the umbilical represent the promise of that same God to “never leave you nor forsake you”. They personify the abiding intimacy and continuous provision of the Father.
So through the Blood, we also have “relationship”. The veil that withheld personal relationship between man and his God was torn (represented by blood). By severing relationship with Adam, God severed access to the breath, AND the bread, AND the water of life. He essentially severed “the umbilical”. The way to restoration of the severed umbilical is by restoring the connection with the “lifeblood” of relationship - which is accessible only through the Blood. Through the Blood, the spirit of man is sustained by the oxygen (breath of life) and the water (water of life) and the food (bread of life) from “The Blood” that flows from the umbilical of the “last Adam”. Which proves that we need to seek life from a God who is “a living trinity” in order to sustain life. And there is only one God who qualifies. And that is God the Father (the breath of life), God the Son (the bread of life) and God the Holy Spirit (the water of life), the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel. The Father of John 3:16. And we gain access to the breath of life, and the bread of life, and the water of life, only through the blood of Christ. For whilst the umbilical specifically represents that by which man “is connected” to the source of life that entirely sustains him, at the same time, the navel is equally the insignia of “being separated” from that very source, from “the womb” that is “the wellspring of all life” (represented by the Garden of Eden). As such, the navel is the “evidence" of that separation, just like the scars upon Jesus’ body are the “evidence” of His being separated from His Father.
In the natural, the pain of childbirth is not suffered without deliberate reason. On the one hand, it is all about reciprocation. The pain that the one and only true God decreed every woman will suffer during childbirth is so that woman may come to know the intense pain that the Father had to endure upon the agonizing separation from His son and daughter in the Garden of Eden. Up until that time, God had enjoyed complete and uninterrupted communion with Adam and Eve, much like what a mother enjoys with her child during her entire pregnancy. Just like a mother and her child are intimately tied to each other, God was likewise “intimately” connected with Adam and Eve, represented by their “nakedness”. Just like the nakedness of a baby in a mother’s womb is covered by the mother, a nakedness that a baby is completely unaware of, Adam and Eve where covered by God, a nakedness they were entirely unaware of. God walked and talked with them every day, pretty much like a mother walks and talks with a child in her womb. The pain God felt at having to suddenly separate from Adam and Eve primarily due to the role Eve played in the great Fall (the great Separation), as well as the extreme pain God also had to later feel again at the unimaginable separation from His Son on the Cross, which is reflected in the natural through Mary’s angst as she gazed upon her son, and the pain God feels at the separation of all of His sons and daughters as a result of sin entering the world, being a domino effect set in motion by the part Eve played in all THREE, God decreed that “woman” would feel pain when her hour came for separating from her own children. “Whenever a woman is in labour, she has pain, because HER HOUR HAS COME; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.” (John 16:21). “And Jesus answered them, saying, THE HOUR IS COME, that the Son of man should be glorified.” (John 12:23). As soon as the “death of the Son of man” became the “resurrection of the Son of God”, God no longer remembered the anguish, because of the joy He felt at having His Son back again through being raised back to life (born). “Those who sow with tears will reap with joy” (Psalm 126:5). Which is the same reason a woman’s joy soon supersedes the pain of separation. And is also the reason the first thing a child does “is cry” when it is born. Because it also realizes that the sanctuary and safety of its season of umbilical connection has now been summarily severed, a separation that endures until that baby later latches back onto its mother. Just as for the intense pain Jesus felt at being cut off from His Father, when He took on the sin of the world, where the Father had no choice but to sever and separate all communion and connection with His beloved Son, the sons of man likewise experience the same pain of separation. God’s had no choice but to entirely cut Himself off from His Son, for “what communion has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). So when Revelation 2:14 speaks of no more mourning and crying, what it firstly tells us is, there will be no more “separation”.
What a future and a hope. And God further steers us to a deeper understanding of the purpose and wholeness of togetherness through the nature of a relationship between a new born child and its parents. Being unable to speak or to walk for an extended period of time ensures that the child re-establishes dependence on its natural source of love and life. God hard codes that even though we go through the pain of separation when that umbilical is cut, that we all find our way back to togetherness and wholeness through the blessing of our “relationship” with our parents and our “dependence” on those who physically participated in our personal creation. This is the intense forethought and the forerunner representation of the restoration of our umbilical in the spiritual with the Spirit of He who created us. So whilst the pain of childbirth is one hand about reciprocation for the pain God and His Son had to suffer, so that we may ourselves then be able to relate to that pain through our own pain, on the other hand, then, the pain of childbirth is the wisdom that ensures that we value what it is “to not be separated”. Which is also why man and woman feel the intense pain they do when they suffer the tragedy of divorce. God detests separation. Which is why He also says, “What God has joined together, let no man separate.” (Mark 10:9). God has encoded our DNA with a predisposition to connection, to togetherness and to relationship.
The only reason that mankind became separated from all that is “living authentically” is because sin suddenly entered the world. As such, since death came through man’s “sin”, death falls directly on man’s shoulders. But since life came through Christ’s “perfect righteousness” and “unfailing love”, life falls squarely on “love’s shoulders". All “sin” is a preemptive strike against “love”. When Jesus surrendered His life on the Cross, He spent THREE days in the tomb. And we know that in the spiritual domain, “three” represents a “complete” work by a “complete” God so that man may once again be “complete”. THREE. Which, expressed in another way, is so that man can once again live and walk in the fullness of “living authentically.” The “authentic life” that was the blueprint of the Garden of Eden intimacy and communion, that place where man was “permanently connected” to the source of all life, went from being a “womb” to a “tomb” for all of mankind, the second sin entered the world. But the “complete work” of “the life, and death, and resurrection” of Jesus (THREE), by a “complete God” of “the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (THREE) during the “three days” that Jesus spent in the tomb, completely reversed this. A trinity of trinities. What had become a “tomb” for all of mankind through sin entering the world was turned back into a “womb” when love entered the world (John 15:13), it is now no longer necessary for man to EVER be separated from the Father ever again, just as for the state of a child that is in the womb. Because whilst by one man sin entered the world, it is by one Man that sin also left the world (Romans 5:12-20). Jesus had to “live” a sinless life, He had to “die” for the sins of others, and he had to “come alive” so that they who are dead in their sins may yet once again come alive (THREE). The complete work of “all three” were required in order to turn what has become “a tomb” into what is now “a womb” for all who believe in their heart (soul), and confess with their tongue (mind), that Jesus is the Son of God who lived and died and was raised to life (Romans 10:9-10). For if we don’t believe it, we remain constrained and confined to “a tomb”. And just as for Jesus, the days we spend in the tomb will likewise be “a complete work”. But if we DO believe, then what is a tomb NOW becomes a womb. By definition, a womb is that place and position where one is connected (not separated) to the “river of life” that flows from the river “source” (God) to the open river “mouth” (man) waiting to receive the very substance of life. “For since death came by a man, by a man has come the resurrection of the dead.” (1 Corinthians 15:21).
Through the life (womb), the death (tomb), and the resurrection of Christ (womb), a complete God performed a complete work so that through “the way, and the truth and the life" (THREE), man may once again be whole and complete.
Reconciled in Christ
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross."
(Colossians 1:15-20)
Now to the King, eternal, immortal, invisible (THREE), the only God, be honour and glory, for ever and ever. Amen. (1 TIMOTHY 1:17).
God's richest blessings, for now and for always, amen and amen.
