GIVE ME A BETTER HEART THAN EVEN DAVID

“Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Selah.” Psalm 84:8. Oh Father, my LORD and my God, I humbly ask by the might of Your almighty right hand, that You bless me with a heart better than even David, please my God. For do Your all-seeing, all-knowing eyes not look unto the heart? 1 Samuel 16:7. Do Your eyes not run to and fro throughout all the earth, searching the whole earth that You may be strong for those whose hearts are faithful unto You? 2 Chronicles 16:9. And is faithfulness unto You not a matter of the heart?

Therefore strengthen me, please O LORD God Almighty, in my heart. By the workings and the ways of Your grace and mercy, give me a new heart and put a new spirit in me. And according to Your covenant of old, give me a heart made of flesh, and not of stone. Ezekiel 36:26. And as per Your promise in Jeremiah 31:33 and Your covenant of Hebrews 10:16, write Your law on my heart and put it in my mind. That You may be my God, and that I may be Your son. That You may dwell with me. And walk with me. And I with You. "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 2 Corinthians 6:16.

Let my heart be fiercely loyal unto You, my LORD. May my heart be more loyal to You than even David. May my heart sing more psalms unto You than even David. May my heart slay every giant that stands in the way of You and I being kin. For “my soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” Psalm 84:2. That we may be of one heart, and one nature. Of one mind and one Spirit. “I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.” Jeremiah 32:39.

Put Your fear into my heart, please my LORD, that I may never depart from You. For is it not written: “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.”‭‭ Jeremiah‬ ‭32:40‬. And is the fear of the Lord not the beginning of wisdom? And is it not most wise to never depart from You, my God and King? Give me a better heart than even David, my LORD my God, that I may be a son who never departs from You and who never turns away from doing You good.

For in my misspent youth, have I not spent many a season frolicking in the pig slop of my own ways like the prodigal son? And by Your Grace, did I not finally come to my senses? “Finally he came to his senses and said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have plenty of food? But here I am, starving to death!” Luke 15:17. And have I still not come to my senses? Do I not desire that I may be a pillar in Your house? Revelation 3:12. Or even a doorkeeper? For “better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” Psalm 84:10.

So write Your name on the door posts of my heart. For is my heart not Your dwelling place? So that of Your house and Your ways, I may go out no more. And write on me the name of the city of Your God, the New Jerusalem, and Your new name. May all three names be written on my heart, my God. For has it not been said: “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.” Revelation 3:12. And is the matter of overcoming not a matter of the heart? So give me a better heart than even David, please my LORD my God.

For no other reason than because I want to honour You, to be a son FOR You, and TO You, and that I know that whether I honour You is a matter of heart, I humbly ask You to give me a heart better than even David. For is a son not one who honours his Father? And I so desire to be a son who truly honours his father, being You, Father God. I desire to be a son who You can take one at look my heart, and just like with David, know immediately that I am a son who above all else desires Your name to be hallowed, to be held high, as in neon lights. And that I am a son who desires for Your kingdom to come in the most majestic display upon all the earth, which just as with the coming of the Son of Man, will be like lightning that flashes in the east and shines to the west. Matthew 24:27. And that I am a son who desires above all else for Your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

For “One thing I have asked of the LORD; this is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and seek Him in His temple.” Psalm 27:4. “For how lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!” Psalm 84:1. And how lovely is the beauty of the LORD? For is it not only the pure of heart who shall see Him? Matthew 5:8. “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” Psalm 84:11. And is being blameless not a matter of heart? So give me a better heart than even David, please my LORD my God. That I may be Your son. And that I may honour You, as is fitting for a God, and a King, and a Father.

This we humbly ask and pray and thank You for in the hallowed and almighty name of Jesus, amen and amen.
