THE PURPOSE OF PRAYER

THE PURPOSE OF PRAYER

Prayer is the “homing signal” to all that is ORIGINAL LOVE held in the “holding pattern of readiness” by the insistence of silence or apathy.

In fact, prayer is the unseen handshake of the mighty hand of God reaching down from heaven to meet with the up stretched hand of man. It is the overpowering aroma and language of heaven. No plea speaks more loudly than the voice of lack. No petition acknowledges God’s power more than the urgency of man’s need. Or acknowledges His love more than with the gratitude of bended knee upon one’s deliverance from the wine press of need.

The purpose of prayer is to visit upon the natural the generosity of the sovereign power that first created it. Prayer is the dispatched invitation, released along the straits of the umbilical, unto the expectant and flourishing womb of life. It is the precursor to the trade winds of redemption, refreshing, righteousness and royalty. It is the visceral summons set loose in pursuit of the primordial breath of all life. Prayer is the succour that wields the sweeping broom of all cleanliness, and apprehends the loving supply of the divine nature and wholeness.

Fail to pray, and prepare to fail.

“The prayer closet is not an asylum for the lazy and worthless Christian. It is not a nursery where none but babes belong. IT IS THE BATTLEFIELD OF THE CHURCH, ITS CITADEL, THE SCENE OF HEROIC AND UNEARTHLY CONFLICT.” E. M. Bounds

‘May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.’ PSALM 141:2
