IT’S ALL ABOUT “COVERING”

The word of God says love covers a multitude of sins. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8.

When Adam and Eve sinned, they were suddenly naked. They lost their covering.

When a child is in a womb, he is naked, but he is covered by the womb. When he emerges, though he be naked, he is covered by the love of his father and mother. For the design blueprint is and always has been that we are to wear the garment of love throughout life. We were birthed in love, and so we should also live in love. When we emerge before the Father, we shall be covered in the light of life (John 8:12).

I would rather be covered by love than to be covered by the self wounds or injuries people have inflicted upon me. Every time I react out of my wounding, rather than His love, I wear my wounding instead of His love.

My Lord my God, cover us with the healing balm of Gilead of Your perfect love, that we may be adorned without spot of wrinkle. That what we present as our garment, is not only the garment of salvation, but the garment of righteousness. That the fragrance we wear is not the stench of wounds, but the aroma of Your perfect love, the fragrance of the rose of Sharon.

When the blood of Jesus covers our sin, it not only washes away the stain of sin, but also the stench of sin. That just as His mercy stands up new each day, each day we may take on the covering of love, rather than sin. Being the garment of a love that covers a multitude of sins. “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.“ (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Cover our sins, my God, with the healing balm of Your love. That we may present the fragrance of Your Son at all times in all that we are.

2 Peter 1:5-7 speaks of seven-layers of covering culminating in love. “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.” Being a seven-fold garment of love from our Father in heaven that covers us like the seven-fold, rainbow-coloured coat given to Joseph by his father, Israel.
