THE PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING
How is it possible for peace to "surpass all understanding?" Because the human spirit lies beyond the range of consciousness. So when the Presence of the LORD is with you, it is with you in a place of our being that exceeds the extremities of our consciousness, for it is with you in the realm of the spirit. And by being the Prince of Peace, the Presence of the LORD brings with it the prince of all peace, and with it, provides a rest that cannot be constrained to the limits of what the consciousness can comprehend. And, as such, it is a peace that cannot be shaken or moved, for it is a peace that surpasses the structures as well as the confines of conscious understanding.
And of this Presence, and with it the ineffable and unmatched rest it brings, being a man who talked with God in the very Presence of God, a Presence that descended as a physical pillar of cloud to stand and talk with Moses at the door of the tabernacle, Moses made the following value statement to God of the Presence of the LORD: "Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.” And He (God) said, “My PRESENCE will go with you, and I will give you REST. Then he (Moses) said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us?.”” EXODUS 33:13-16.
In other words, the world will know of God's grace by the specific peace and unusual rest that His people carry with them. And of this rest, for the very core of man, there is also no other rest that can remotely compare with the Presence of the LORD. For Moses, even the outward blessings of all the milk and honey of the Promised Land did not compare with the inward rest that proceeds from the Presence of the LORD.
And of this same rest, on behalf of God's people, Moses interceded with the LORD that the Presence of the LORD go among them all too. "So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped. Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, GO AMONG US, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and TAKE US as Your inheritance.” And He said: “Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.” EXODUS 34:8-10
In the same way as Moses before Him, the Prince of Peace Himself went before the Father and interceded on behalf of us all that we too may personally enter the Presence and rest of the Prince of Peace. And a better covenant was established between God and His people through Christ. For instead of God standing and talking only with Moses at the door of the tabernacle, now that the veil has been torn, we all can stand at the door of tabernacle and talk with the pillar of cloud that is the Presence and rest of the LORD. “Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are." JOHN 17:11. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” JOHN 17:20-21. It is through the peace that surpasses all understanding that the world sees upon His people that the world will believe that God sent Jesus.
And of this peace, REVELATION tells us that for the world, this peace will be "the desire of all nations." In HAGGAI 2:6-9, the LORD prophetically speaks of a season to come where He will shake the world (disrupt its peace). And in the same way that with the peace that surpasses all understanding being a type of peace that cannot be shaken, during that time when the LORD will shake all the nations, there will be in the midst of that shaking a place where peace cannot be shaken. For us, in the last days church, the church will be our Jerusalem, our "City of Peace." Jerusalem means “City of Peace”. And for the world and all the nations that God will shake, because of its unmovable peace in the midst of all the shaking, this peace shall be the "Desire of All Nations".
And for the world and the nations He shakes, they shall come to the Desire of the Nations, who is the Prince of a Peace, being He who holds the "signet ring" of authority to the peace that surpasses all understanding, which is the hope and the peace that is the new Jerusalem, the "City of Peace." And instead of the counterfeit peace of silver and gold moving the world and the nations, it will be the peace that surpasses all understanding. Which is a peace that will only be available to those who have the silver of the image of His righteousness, and the gold of the likeness of the divine nature.
This silver and gold is available only for those who believe upon and come into intimate relationship with the Prince of Peace. Jesus was deliberately crucified and intentionally resurrected in Jerusalem because only by defeating sin and restoring our umbilical with God through the power of resurrection life can there be peace in the heart of man that surpasses all understanding and between man and His Father. Jerusalem means City of Peace and Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
Thank You, LORD, for Your peace that surpasses all understanding, for Your rest that cannot be shaken, and for Your Presence that cannot be compared with anything that the world has to offer.
