NEW PATHWAYS
"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." Proverbs 23:7.
It may sound simple, and it should, but we don't hear the LORD simply because we are not tuned into the correct radio station frequency. The radio of our minds only learns of the frequency channel of God's voice when we rewire our brains pathways through the renewing of our minds to His frequency. When we spend time in the frequency of His written Word, assimilating and appropriating His thoughts, thoughts which He has graciously and permanently framed for us all upon the pages of His written Word like an everlasting golden sunset, we begin to take on a new thought life and a new thought posture. And when we do, it is then that His ways become our ways, for it is then that His thoughts become our thoughts. For "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." Proverbs 23:7.
The LORD dropped a single word into my mind at the beginning of this week: "frequency". As I dwelled upon it, He showed me that just like a radio can tune into different frequencies, our brain and thought patterns work the same way. God wants us to tune into His ways and His thoughts. He says My ways are not your ways. My thoughts are not your thoughts. Our ways are a by-product of our thoughts. So God wants us to "renew our minds DAILY", which begins with creating new neural pathways and thought patterns that are made in the image and likeness of His ways and thoughts. And these ways and thoughts are FRAMED by every Word immortalised in ink upon the parchment of every page of the Bible. As we attune our hearts and minds to the frequency of His written Word, we will automatically also find that we start to hear His voice more too, because the antennae of our spirit has tuned the radio of our minds into the correct frequency. And in the same way that every minute of every day there are dozens of frequencies playing on every radio all about us that we don't hear at all, God is permanently speaking with us which we simply don't hear simply because we have not tuned the radio station of our minds into His frequency. The dial that moves the needle of the frequency selector towards that unique frequency of the LORD is the dial that renews our minds - the written Word.
Which is why the wisdom of Proverbs 23:7 is so far reaching. "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." In other words, a man's thoughts FRAME "who" he is. Which tells us that man is a direct by-product of his thoughts and his thought patterns. If our thoughts subsume into specific patterns, then so to do our lives and behaviour observe a pattern. Which means that man is a product of what is UNSEEN. For what are thoughts other than "unseen words"? Which also means that man is FRAMED by the very same thing that God tells us also FRAMES "all that which we see." "Through faith we understand that the worlds were FRAMED by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:3. So just like all that which is seen as all of creation is made by what is unseen, being the Word of God, man's behaviour is predetermined and baked into existence by the unseen instruments of his thoughts and words. As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
A FRAME can be described as an "embracing structure", one which serves, on the one hand, as a defining border, whilst at the same time as defining that extreme fringe or perimeter, a FRAME also serves as a "structural support". God says everything that is creation that we can see has a FRAME. And that frame is the Word of God. He FRAMED the worlds with His Word. His Word, therefore, not only serves to outline the periphery or circumference of the worlds, but it is also His Word that structurally supports all of the worlds too. "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17. "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." Hebrews 1:3.
Which tells us, therefore, that the written Word is also a FRAME. It is a frame that both "structurally supports" as well as "defines the boundaries or perimeters" of the world that is the kingdom of God. The written Word of God is the same FRAME that guides our lifestyles and the extremities of what man ought to think in his heart. This is the purpose of the WRITTEN Word. It delineates the parameters of our reference markers for "the way and the truth and the life" that is love, and underpins every argument of righteous thinking and being. It is the FRAME that forms the lines of longitude and latitude for the promised land as defined by the kingdom charter. Which is a blueprint for the kingdom of real love. We TRESPASS when we step outside of the borders of that detailed FRAME. We SIN when we exalt anything in our heart above the knowledge, the understanding and the wisdom of God, by placing anything outside of that FRAME as preeminent and prominent in our hearts. We commit INIQUITY when we deliberately plan and premeditate to go against the counsel of that FRAME. We TRANSGRESS when we don't live and walk according to the edicts of the written Word.
Which is why God the Father exhorts man to renew his mind daily. For what else does the call to RENEW our mind mean other than establish NEW THOUGHTS. Because if how we think and what we think determines who we are and how we behave, then through the gift of God's written Word, God provides for man a frame of reference of a better way of what to think and how to think, and therefore, how to behave. Which is also why God draws our attention to the fact that our thoughts are not His thoughts. And paired to that, our ways are not His ways. By "renewing our minds", God is telling us we can change our thought patterns and rewrite our neural pathways. We can elevate and promote both our thought patterns and thought life to His thoughts and His ways. Which is how we find the path to the way and the truth and the life. Which is also why most of the brain is water. Because it typifies the canvas and the properties of the Spirit which is fluid like rivers of living water. Our thoughts don't have to be cast in stone. A leopard CAN change its spots if it changes its thinking. God has made a way and a provision for renewing our minds. Which is through framing our thoughts with the wisdom and the beauty and the truth and the love of His Word. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16.
And when we spend time in the frequency of His written Word, it is then that we will also tune into the frequency of His revealed Word. "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3.
"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen." 1 TIMOTHY 1:17
