SEA OF GLASS

Revelation 4:6 says, “Before the throne, there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.” And Revelation 15:2 says, “I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire.” And is man not described as being mere dust? For does the Word of God not teach that, “The Lord God formed a man from the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7)? And when one “mingles fire” with “dust”, what else other than “pure glass” do we get out on the other side? For is not the Holy Spirit likened unto a fire? For is it not written, “And there appeared to them tongues AS OF FIRE distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.” (Acts 2:3)? And when the Holy Spirit perfects all that which concerns us (Psalm 138:8; 1 Thessalonians 5:24), shall we then not be as “a sea of glass” before the throne of God, one as pure as crystal, and “mingled with fire”?

And when it comes to being as pure as “a sea of glass” before You, our LORD our God, Your Word clearly states that only “the pure in heart” shall see You! And that, to see You, is a blessing! For does Your living and infallible Word not clearly state, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they WILL see God.” (Matthew 5:8)? And as Your children, is it not our earnest desire and petition, as all Your sons and daughters, “to seek Your face”, that we may SEE You, Father? That we may, with all gladness and fullness of heart, and a loud voice, joyfully declare “On this day, I have stood in the house of my LORD my God, and with my own eyes, I have beheld the beauty of the LORD, and have seen my Father in His temple!” (Psalm 27:4). For as surely as the deer pants for streams of water, so too does my soul long after You, O God! For it is of us who seek to SEE You, Father, that it is written, “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before my God?” (Psalm 42:2).

And since it is only those who have “a pure heart” who shall see You, as Your children, being all those who are therefore “flesh of Your flesh and bones of Your bones” (Genesis 2:23), we ask and seek a TRULY pure heart, Father, that we may TRULY see You. So that when we seek Your face, that we may also find You. For is it not written, “Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” (1 Chronicles 16:11)? And with this in mind, we therefore seek You with ALL OUR HEART. For does Your Word not also promise that for all of those who seek Your face that, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13)? For is it not a very unnatural thing that any child should not know the face of their Father? For surely it is an unusual thing that any child would not know the expressions of his Father’s face? Or by looking upon His countenance, would not also know the timbre of His heart?

And, therefore, as those who seek to see You, Father, and to know Your face, according to what is written in Matthew 18:19, that “if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven“, then as two or more on earth who agree, we hereby ask You, our LORD and our God, that You make all our minds and hearts as pure as “the sea of glass” of Revelation 4:6 and 15:2. That when you look upon us from Your throne, and when you search our minds and hearts according to what is written in Jeremiah 17:10, “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind”, that when You next look upon our hearts and minds, that You will find no impurity, but only what was once before “mere dust” now purified by the furnace of Your love and Holy Spirit into “pure glass”, a glass so pure, that it is entirely without spot, or wrinkle or blemish (Ephesians 4:27). So that when we seek Your face, Father, we may SEE You. And that when we all see You, that on that great day, we may all be as “a sea of glass before Your very throne”.
