THE FINAL UNVEILING

For the better part of time leading up to the eventful birth of Jesus, the earth was "without form" (without righteousness), and "was void" (empty of life), and "darkness was on the face of the deep" (sin abounded in the deep of man's hearts all across the sea of humanity). And like a mother’s heart pregnant with longing and hope for the well-being of her offspring, the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters (over the stagnant waters of man's lifeless spirit and the muddied waters of man’s soul), much like the star of hope that hovered like a peremptory promise immediately above the baby Jesus (Matthew 2:9). For in that birth, the hovering Spirit had a perfect plan, a plan to prosper and not harm, a plan to give a bright future and an everlasting hope (Jeremiah 29:11). For with that miraculous birth, God moved upon the face of the waters (Genesis 1:2).

In fact, the birth of Jesus represents the same moment “for all mankind” as when God said “for all creation”, ““Let there be light,” and there was light" (Genesis 1:3). Upon the moment of the birth of His Son, God let there be a light in the darkness, and the formlessness, and the void of the world, a light that not only darkness could not overcome, but a light on a high hill that cannot be hidden. And in the same way that God saw that the light was good, it was good. And in the same way that there was day and night, through the light of Jesus, God then separated light from darkness. He separated those who are in righteousness (light) from those who are in sin (darkness). For light keeps no company with darkness. "God is light; in him there is no darkness at all." (1 John 1:15).

Equally, in the same way that God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water” (Genesis 1:6), God made "a vault" between the waters of His Spirit and the waters of man’s spirit, a vault that can only be breached or "unlocked" by the One who has “the key of David”. As the light of the world, Christ alone has the key. It is His and His alone, to do with and to give to whom He chooses. And just as when a child comes of age, and a father gives that child the keys to the house, the promise of the star that hovered above the child of Jesus like the Spirit above the surface of the waters, is that, upon a certain coming of age, to give each child the key to His Father’s house. And the good news is that it’s a plan that will never fail. For unto those who have come of age, it will provide for those to whom the key is given, a permanent right of passage to ascend and descend Jacob’s ladder into the throne room of heaven as they may, and a permanent right of entrance into His Father’s House and Presence for all of eternity.

For the key of David is "the Cross". And "the way" to it is through "the gospels" (the path of righteousness). For "The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn (the good news of the gospels), which shines ever brighter until the full light of day (salvation)" (Proverbs 4:18). For Jesus, who IS the way of righteousness, for He is both “the truth” and “the life”, for righteousness is not righteousness without truth and life, is like the first gleam of dawn which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. ”Who Jesus is” unveils steadily, just like the complete works of the Bible, until the fullness of Jesus is revealed to all, and His righteousness is revealed in all its fullness like the full light of day. Which is why we begin with “In the beginning”, being the very first gleam of dawn, which then goes on to shine ever brighter all the way through to the full light of day of the last book of the Bible, which without coincidence, is not only called Revelation, but by its own account is “The revelation of Jesus” (Revelation 1:1). For the last book of the Bible is about the final unveiling of Jesus Christ, when all will see Him for who He truly is, and the fullness of who He is will be revealed before all of creation. Which is that great day when we all see Him in the full light of day AS the full light of day.

For not only is a day rapidly approaching when all the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God, which is when the full revelation of who Jesus is will be upon us like the full light of day, but in order that the weight of that revelation of who Jesus is may be borne by the waters of man, the unveiling of Jesus is a gorgeous and gradual and steady revelation from “the first gleam of dawn until the full light of day”. And in the same way, for those who have looked heavenwards towards the star hovering above, “we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” For we are changed by what we behold.

In the same way, in 2 Thessalonians 2:3–10, the "man of sin" is described as one who will be revealed before the Day of the Lord comes. “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.” In this way, the “man of sin,” being the ultimate revelation of the sin of man, is the essence of the maturity of evil in fallen man. This is a revelation of what we would all be without Christ, making this one of the greatest revelations of God’s unfathomable grace. And for this reason, the love of God is hovering over the waters of all humanity, beckoning unto us as deep calls unto deep unto the final unveiling of who Jesus is. For the entire universe, and all of humanity, are in a constant state of tension between radiant light that extends outward (righteousness) into the full light of day, and dark light that pulls inward (sin) towards a darkness that is entirely without form and void. For just as there is a day coming when the fullness of Jesus will one day be revealed, and just as there is coming a day when the man of sin will be revealed, a day is fast approaching when we will all be asked to reveal the fullness of who we are in Christ.

The big question is what will be revealed in the full light of day at the coming of the LORD? What will be revealed in the final unveiling? For there is to be a final reckoning for all, a great unveiling. For in that day, there will be a final unveiling of the hearts of men to determine towards which light their hearts lean and incline. As for me and my household, it is my urgent prayer and petition that we all be found like John not only leaning against the bosom of Jesus, but also inclining our hearts ever forward towards His.

“Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.”

(John 13:23)
